Chasing 170, Bangalore had slipped to 87-5 by the 13th over, and the game was seemingly heading in favour of Rajasthan Royals.

Skipper Faf du Plessis (29) and fellow opener Anuj Rawat (26) put on 55 in seven overs, but once they departed, Rajasthan followed up with three quick wickets, removing Virat Kohli (5), David Willey (0) and Sherfane Rutherford (5) cheaply.

Dinesh Karthik and Shahbaz Ahmed then joined forces to bat Rajasthan out of the game, putting on 67 in 5.2 overs to swing the momentum.

While Shahbaz was dismissed for 45 off 26 (4x4s, 3x6s), Karthik stayed to the end, finishing on 44 off 23 (7x4s, 1×6). Harshal Patel sealed victory with a six off the first ball of the final over, bowled by part-timer Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Yuzvendra Chahal (2-15) and Trent Boult (2-34) were the standout bowlers for Rajasthan Royals.

Earlier, Hetmyer and Jos Buttler lifted Rajasthan with an unbroken fourth wicket stand of 83 in 8.2 overs.

Buttler, with a hundred the previous game, exercised patience initially before letting loose at the end, smashing six sixes in 70* off 47.

Hetmyer, with scores of 32 and 35 in his previous two innings, finished on 42* off 31 (4x4s, 2x6s), as Patel, Willey and Wanindu Hasaranga took a wicket each. Devdutt Padikkal chipped in with 37 off 29 (2x4s, 2x6s).

IPL action continues on Wednesday with Kolkata Knight Riders playing Mumbai Indians from 10:00h.
