Two men appeared via Zoom before Magistrate Wanda Fortune at the Linden Magistrate’s Court charged jointly with three counts of armed robbery.

David Karran, 22, known as Jack of Block #25 Adelphi Village, East Canje, Berbice and  32-year-old Deol Narrayan known as ‘Deportee’ of Section ‘A’ #70 Village, were not required to plead to the charges which alleged that they robbed a family of three on March 18, 2022, at Kimbia Village, Upper Berbice River in Region Ten.

They were remanded to prison until April 13, 2022.

This is the same robbery during which an ex-prisoner, accused of being part of a gang of five men who robbed and beat the family, was caught by residents, tied up and beaten to death.

Dead is Kwame Bhagwandin, 39, of Lot 227 Angoys Avenue, New Amsterdam, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne). The Guyana Police Force never issued a report on the robbery or the murder of Bhagwandin.

The News Room had reported that at around 23:00hrs on March 18, five masked men barged into the premises of the Gladstone’s; they ransacked the house, assaulted the victims and stole approximately $500,000 in cash from the boat captain, an undisclosed amount of cash from his brother along with jewellery.
