An accident on the La Penitence Public Road in Georgetown on Tuesday morning claimed the life of 59-year-old Debra Salikram, of West Ruimveldt Estate Housing Scheme.
Police Headquarters reported that the woman was riding motorcycle CK 1126 north along the eastern side of the road and reportedly turned west into the path of the minibus which was speeding in the opposite direction.
The accident occurred at around 06:00hrs. An ambulance was summoned and the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene by a Doctor Singh, according to the police.
The driver and owner of the minibus (BAB 1155) 29-year-old Dencel Abrams of Supply, East Bank Demerara, remains in police custody assisting with investigations.
Police said no trace of alcohol was found in his system.
