Guyana’s most decorated squash player, Nicolette Fernandes, will have a chance to add another accolade to her list of successes when she competes in the women’s final at the ongoing Pan American Championships in Guatemala.
She will face the tournament’s number-one seed, Laura Tovar of Colombia in the final on Wednesday from 20:00h.
Her berth in the final came as a result of toppling number-two seed, Hannah Blatt of Canada in the semi-final on Tuesday evening.
The former Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games gold medalist defeated the Canadian 11-2, 11-9, 11-3 while Tovar topped her countrywoman, Maria Clara Ramirez, 11-1, 11-2, 11-3.
Meanwhile, Alex Arjoon and Kristian Jeffrey lost their men’s doubles match 2-11, 4-11 to Chile’s Alonso Escudero and Rafael Galvez.
