Just days after a No.79 Village fisherman fell overboard in the Corentyne River and his body recovered, another fisherman of Ulverston, East Berbice Corentyne, is missing after he too fell overboard in the same river.

Feared drowned is Kallicharran Mohabir, 52, a father of one.

The News Room was informed that the incident took place Tuesday while Mohabir was fishing with his captain and three other fishermen on a wooden vessel. Those men are all in custody assisting police with investigations presently.

The missing man’s sister, Gaitrie Mohabir, 50, said the crew was fishing in the Rose Hall Town foreshore area; they left on Monday night.

She said it was on Tuesday that the owner of the boat informed them that Mohabir fell overboard and did not resurface.

According to Gaitrie, relatives were not told the circumstances under which her brother fell overboard; she also claimed that the owner of the boat did not spearhead any search teams.

A report was only filed with the police on Wednesday. The News Room understands that the relatives of the three other fishermen will venture to the area in search of Mohabir.

The family remains hopeful that Mohabir is still alive. Gaitrie said her brother lived and worked in Suriname for a few years before relocating to Guyana during the pandemic.
