Essequibo fisherman missing following boat accident in Suriname


The authorities are desperately searching for a 52-year-old fisherman who went missing after two boats collided in Suriname waters on Wednesday afternoon.

Missing is Terrance Gomes of Supenaam, Region Two. Relatives told the News Room that the five other crew members on the boat were rescued but Gomes was not so lucky.

Following the accident, the Coast Guards in Guyana and Suriname were informed and a search is ongoing for Gomes.

The family said that Gomes has been a fisherman for the past 20 years and he was working for a man they only know as ‘Vishal’ from the East Bank of Demerara.
