Devon Cummings, a 32-year-old man from Sister’s Village on the West Bank of Demerara (WBD), died after he was chopped and stabbed about his body by two men on Wednesday.
Police Headquarters reported that Cummings and a friend were walking on a nearby backdam when they saw other friends, including the two suspects, consuming alcohol at a restaurant at Back Street, Goed Intent, WBD.
Cummings and his friend were invited to consume alcohol with the group. Sometime later, it was reported that Cummings indicated that would head home.
As he made an attempt to leave the restaurant, an argument ensued between him and another male. It is not clear what caused the argument but Cummings reportedly hit one of the men.
Subsequently, one of the suspects pushed Cummings against a wall and chopped him to the head with a cutlass; another man stabbed Cummings to his chest with a knife.
Both suspects then escaped on foot in an unknown direction.
Cummings was later rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries while being treated. His body is at the Ezekiel’s Funeral Home awaiting an autopsy.
Police Headquarters stated that based on information received, a man residing in Goed Intent was arrested and is assisting with investigations.
