Thief nabbed with stolen sausages, laptop, other items

Police in Region One (Barima-Waini) have arrested a thief who broke into the business place of 49-year-old Douglas Robeiro at Kumaka Water Front in Moruca, North West District.

Police Headquarters reported that the break and enter occurred on Thursday. The suspect was caught with an HP laptop valued at $89,000, four cartons of cigarettes valued at $40,000 and 18 tins of sausages valued at $5,400; it all amounted to a total value of $134,400.

According to the police, the businessman said he secured his shop at midnight and the next morning at around 09:00hrs, he discovered the padlock on his door was broken. He later discovered the items missing.

A report was made to Acquero Police Station after which ranks visited the scene.

The suspect was later seen walking along the Moruca access road with a black haversack on his back. He was reportedly acting in a suspicious manner and was immediately confronted by an investigating rank. A search was conducted on his person and the stolen computer was observed in the haversack.

“He was immediately told of the allegation and admitted to committing the offence. He also provided the police with additional information which led to the recovery of the other items that were stolen,” the police statement noted.

He remains in police custody.
