IPL: Pooran in the runs as Sunrisers hand Titans first defeat

Nicholas Pooran stayed to the end as Sunrisers Hyderabad handed Gujarat Titans their first defeat of the Indian Premier League on Monday.

Faced with a target of 163, Sunrisers won by eight wickets with five balls to spare.

Pooran struck two fours and two sixes in an unbeaten 34 off 18 balls, taking the responsibility to the end after openers Kane Williamson and Abhishek Sharma laid the platform with an opening stand of 64 in 8.5 overs.

Williamson scored 57 off 46 (2x4s, 4x6s) and Sharma made 42 off 32 (6x4s).

Titans’ 162-7 was built on an unbeaten 50 off 42 balls (4x4s, 1×6) from skipper Hardik Pandya and 35 off 21 (5x4s, 1×6) from Abhinav Manohar.

Thangarasu Natarajan took 2-34 and Bhuvneshwar Kumar 2-37.

IPL action continues on Tuesday with Chennai Super Kings playing Royal Challengers Bangalore from 10:00h.
