Sankar, Forrester star in wins for DCC and GCC

City giants Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) and Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) secured wins last weekend when the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) First-Division Two-Day tournament continued.

Leg-spinner Steven Sankar took a match-haul of 7-89 from 17.3 overs, which led defending champions champion DCC to a four-wicket (D/L method) over hosts Police Sports Club (PSC).

PSC took the first strike and was dismissed for 184 from 44.1 overs with Sankar leading the way with 4-70, while pacers Trevon Garraway (2-14) and Carlton Jacques (2-22) took two apiece. Raj Nanan (1-20) and Christopher Barnwell (1-21) were also among the wickets.

Lower-order hitting from Kelvin Leitch with a 26-ball 46 (2x4s; 5x6s) got the lawmen close to the 200-mark. Kevin Christian (40), Pernell London (22), and Andrew Lyght Jr (21) were the only other batsmen to reach double-figures.

In response, several DCC batsmen got starts but none carried on to a big score; Barnwell top-scored with 56 as Tevin Imlach (31), Peter Perez (23), Trevon Griffith (21) chipped in support.

Spinners Antony Adams (4-49) and Dwain Dick (3-54) shared seven wickets to rout DCC for 193, however, PSC in their second innings did not fair too well as they were bundled out for 77. Ronsford Beaton (16) and (14) were the main scorers.

Sankar again was the main man with 3-19, while Barnwell (2-19) and Nanan (2-21) once again were among the wickets. DCC reached 70-6 in response as Dick snared 5-31 with his off-spin.

Over at Bourda, the home side won by 130 runs led by Winston Forrester, who scored over 200 runs in the match.

GCC’s first innings ended at 129 all out with Ronaldo Alimohamed striking 33 and Forrester 30. For Malteenoes Sports Club, Nickosi Barker (4-46) and Diquan Murray (3-30) did the damage. Barker had to return with the bat to make 38 along with 33 from Jermiah Scott as they were bowled out for 126 as spinner Stephon Wilson took 4-22.

Forrester then slammed 176 (25x4s; 2x6s) from 165 balls as GCC piled on 302-4 in 55.5 overs. Leon Johnson made a 47-ball 65 (10x4s; 1×6).

The Guyana Harpy Eagles captain returned to take 5-31, which helped bundle out MSC for 175. Mervin Pemaul made 47 not out, while Shaquille Williams (38) and Daniel Ross (34) also showed some resistance.
