A 22-year-old man of Half Mile, Wismar, Linden was granted $500,000 bail and was slapped with several charges related to the accident which claimed the life of 18-year-old Odel Taylor on Sunday last.

David Narine appeared before Magistrate Clive Nurse at the Georgetown Magistrates Court on Wednesday and was charged with causing death by dangerous driving, being an unlicensed driver and driving an uninsured vehicle.

Narine pleaded not guilty to the dangerous driving charge and guilty to the other two charges. He was fined $30,000 for each charge.

The matter was adjourned to May 04, 2022, for statements.

Narine had initially fled the accident scene but later turned himself in to police accompanied by his lawyer.

He had reportedly jumped an intersection and crashed into Taylor.

Police reported that Taylor was speeding on motorcycle # CL 731 without a helmet when Narine crashed into him.

The impact caused Taylor to fall off the motorcycle and his head collided with a concrete culvert. He was picked up by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Linden Hospital Complex where he was pronounced dead.
