Police investigate assault of sex worker
The Guyana Police Force is investigating an alleged assault committed on a 25-year-old male sex worker at Herstelling, East Bank Demerara. The suspect is a 34-year-old welder who is in custody assisting with the investigations.
According to a police report, at about 18:00 hrs on Tuesday, the sex worker claimed that he was heading to a nearby shop when the suspect “hurled a derogatory remark at him and told him to get out of the street.”
The sex worker said he gestured his arm showing the suspect “to get”. But this angered the suspect who ran out of his yard with a suspected firearm and assaulted and threatened him.
The sex worker told police that he then took out his phone and started videoing during which he heard a loud explosion suspected to be a gunshot.
The sex worker managed to escape unharmed and made a report at the Providence Police Station.
Police said during the arrest of the suspect, the suspected firearm was not found.
Meanwhile, the victim was treated for minor injuries to his face and neck at the Diamond Diagnostic Centre.
