A 28-year-old woman turned herself in at the Timehri Police Station on Tuesday, two days after she brutally stabbed a four-year-old girl. Police Headquarters reported that the woman was accompanied by her lawyer and is assisting with the investigations.

The little girl of Timehri, Cemetery Road, East Bank Demerara was stabbed to her left side abdomen; she is in a critical but stable condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Police reported that the suspect and the child’s mother are in a relationship; on Sunday last the couple got into a heated argument.

Police said the child’s mother picked her up and told the suspect that she was leaving “because she is frustrated with the repetitive arguments between them.”

The suspect then armed herself with a knife, approached the child’s mother, and attempted to stab her but instead ended up injuring the child.

Police said the suspect escaped after committing the act.

The child was then taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre and subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
