The woman found dead at the Papi Landing near the Middle Mazaruni river in Region Seven has been identified as Vanessa Rodrigues, called Chinee girl, a 36-year-old indigenous woman from Lethem, in Region Nine.
Police headquarters in a statement noted that the woman’s body was found at around 10:00 hrs on April 13 lying face down in a track; there was a chop wound on her head and there were several other marks of violence about her body.
Her body was clad in a blue blouse and red and black pants.
The incident that led to the woman’s death occurred between Tuesday and Wednesday.
Based on police enquiries, the woman was last seen some time on Tuesday evening in the company of a male who is now in police custody.
The woman’s body and the suspect were both escorted to Bartica as investigations continue.
