    Attoya Harvey copped gold in a three-medal haul for Guyana on day one of the 49th Carifta Games in Kingston, Jamaica, on Saturday.

    Narissa McPherson and Javon Roberts were the other Guyanese on the podium on the opening day, both securing silver medals. Notably, all three athletes ran Personal Best times.

    Harvey won the Girls Under-17 1500m race, while McPherson took silver in the Girls Under-17 400m and Roberts secured second spot in the Boys Under-17 1500m.

    Harvey was timed at four minutes, 45.75 seconds, winning ahead of Kayleigh Forde (4:52.14s) of Trinidad and Tobago and Kededra Coombs (4:52.19s) of the host nation.

    McPherson clocked 55.39 seconds, finishing behind Abigail Campbell (53.83s) and ahead of Quana Walker (55.65s), both of Jamaica.

    Roberts (4:12.5s) finished behind Keeran Sriskandarajah (4:10.58s) of Trinidad and Tobago and ahead of Jamaican Yoshane Bowen (4:13.15s) of Jamaica.

    Action in the regional showpiece, which brings together the very best Under-17 and Under-20 athletes from across the Caribbean, will continue on Sunday. The event concludes on Monday.
