Venezuelan national stabbed to death in Port Kaituma

A Venezuelan national, identified as Felipe Galaviz, was stabbed to death, allegedly by another Venezuelan national on Friday at Oronoque, Port Kaituma in Region One (Barima- Waini).

The suspect is 19-years-old, the police said.

Based on information provided by Regional Commander Himnauth Sawh and reported by Police Headquarters, the incident occurred on Friday at about 23:30hrs. The incident was, however, reported to the police on Saturday at 00:45hrs.

Ranks from the Mabaruma Police Station were deployed to the scene after the report was made and enquiries thus far revealed that the 19-year-old suspect came home and met his wife and the Galaviz consuming alcohol.

An argument reportedly ensued among them and there was a confrontation. Subsequently, Galaviz was stabbed to his neck and shoulder area by the suspect who later fled the scene.

Galaviz was taken to the Port Kaituma Hospital where he started to receive treatment but he subsequently succumbed to his injuries.

Police Headquarters in a statement said that five persons, including the suspect’s wife, are in custody assisting with the ongoing investigation. Police are also searching for the suspect.
