Santa Cruz Lady wins feature event as horse racing returns

After a two-year hiatus, competitive horse racing made a return on Sunday at the Port Mourant Turf Club with Santa Cruz Lady winning the first feature event since the advent of the COVID pandemic.

Santa Cruz Lady of the Jagdeo Racing Stables won the day’s main attraction, the G and Lower race, which carried a top purse of G$300,000 and a trophy sponsored by Banks DIH Limited.

Trailing Santa Cruz Lady to the line were Goodwill Boy of Jagdeo Racing Stables and Golden Dancer of Karibee Racing Stables.

Other winners of the day were Red Star (L Class and Lower), Charrandass (Non-Starter), Maximus (Three-year-old Guyana bred) and Trump (Four-year-old Guyana bred).

The day’s activities attracted support from the Guyana Sugar Corporation, Fazal Habibulla, Banks DIH Limited, Kascon Engineering, A. Sawh Mechanic Shop, Sandeep Poultry Farm, Sunil Poultry Supply, Jumbo Jet Auto Sales, AJM, K. Jagdeo Contractors and Sunil Pet Shop.
