Three arrested after stabbing, attacking Unity families

Police have arrested three men who reportedly assaulted two Unity, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara families just after midnight on Monday.

Police Headquarters reported that there is an ongoing dispute between one of the suspects and one of the family members, 29-year-old Gurdat Jairman.

Jairman was charged in February for allegedly discharging a loaded firearm at one of the suspects, Police Headquarters reported.

On Monday, a relative of Jairam and one of the suspects had a confrontation at the KK Gas Station – a popular liming and entertainment spot for ECD residents.

According to the police report, the activity at the gas station was shut down at about 00:00hrs.

At about 00:30hrs, the suspects visited Jairman’s home, confronted him and an argument ensued.

Police said the suspects then started pelting bottles and pieces of wood at the house and damaged the property.

Meanwhile, during the attack, one of the suspects broke into the house of Surajdeo Nandan, another resident, and allegedly stabbed him while he was in his bed.

The police were summoned and three suspects were arrested.

Nandan was taken to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital where he was treated and discharged.

Investigations are ongoing.
