A 26-year-old man of Abram Zuil, Region Two, was remanded to prison on Monday and charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

Nicklous Singh made his appearance at the Charity Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Esther Sam.

He was not required to plea to the charge and was jailed for eight years for the death of Chandanie Das. Das was the Branch Manager for Courts’ Richmond office.

Singh reportedly fled the country and evaded police for the last eight years and was arrested during an intelligence-led operation on Friday last.

The court heard that on August 12, 2014, Singh drove in a dangerous manner on the Annandale Public Road around 22:30 hours resulting in the death of Das.

Singh was unlicensed at the time when he collided with Das’ motor car.

He was unrepresented.
