Foulis resident dies in Enmore accident
An accident on the Enmore access road on the East Coast of Demerara on Monday evening has claimed the life of 29-year-old Hanchan Basdeo, a resident of Foulis, ECD.
Police Headquarters reported that Basdeo was riding a bicycle when he was struck down by motorcar PYY 9583, driven by 27-year-old Titus Eastman of Haslington, ECD at around 18:30hrs.
Eastman told police that he was driving east along the northern side of the road while Basdeo was proceeding west; he claimed that despite flashing his lights twice and using his horn, he and Basdeo still collided.
As a result of the collision, Basdeo sustained severe injuries and was taken to the Nabaclis Health Centre in an unconscious state. He was later referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and later succumbed to his injuries in the wee hours of Tuesday.
No trace of alcohol was found on the driver following a breathalyzer test and he remains in police custody.
