SA Youth Games: First batch of Guyanese athletes arrives in Argentina

Guyanese athletes and coaches from the disciplines of Table Tennis, 3×3 Basketball and Swimming have arrived safely in Argentina to compete in the South America Youth Games from April 28 to May 8.

Representatives of these three disciplines will compete in what is being dubbed the “first wave” of the Games, followed by the Badminton player and boxer in the second wave.

According to information from the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA), the table tennis players, basketballers and swimmers “have started going about their tasks in relation to their respective sports disciplines.”

“The technical meetings for Table Tennis and Swimming will take place today, April 27, 2022, while the technical meeting for 3×3 Basketball will take place tomorrow, April 28. Competition in the various sports disciplines commences tomorrow morning April 28, 2022 at 09:00h with the swimmers Paul Mahaica Jr., Leon Seaton, Patrice Mahaica and Ariel Rodrigues taking to the pool,” the GOA outlined.

“The Table Tennis players go into action at 10.00h that same morning with the girls- Jasmine Billingy and Thuraia Thomas- playing at that time and the boys- Jonathan Van Lange and Krystian Sahadeo- playing at 11:10h. Vladimir Woodroffe competes in his first event on the morning of April 29, 2022. Guyana plays Venezuela in the 3×3 Basketball at 11:25h on April 29, 2022. The welcoming ceremony for Team Guyana will take place at 11:00h tomorrow, April 28, 2022 at Flag Square.”

Guyana is being represented at the Games by:

Badminton: Matthew Beharry. Jonathan Mangra is the Coach

Basketball (3×3): Anthony Kimol, Man-son-Hing Camelo, Arrindell Matthias and Travis Patrick Anthony Lewis. Junior Hercules is the Coach

Boxing: Travis Inverary. Sebert Blake is the Coach

Swimming: Leon Seaton, Paul Mahaica Jr., Vladimir Woodroffe, Patrice Mahaica, Ariel Rodrigues, Zara Cane. Paul Mahaica Snr. is the Coach

Table Tennis: Jasmine Billingy, Thuraia Thomas, Jonathan Van Lange and Kristian Sahadeo. Idi Lewis is the Coach
