A 29-year-old miner (name withheld) of Nabacalis, East Coast Demerara, is in police custody and will soon face murder-related charges following the discovery of the decomposed body of his colleague at Toroparu backdam, Lower Puruni River, on Wednesday.

The body of Noel Anthony Fredericks, the 27-year-old Amerindian miner who went missing sometime between April 14 and 20, was discovered by Police.

The man in police custody has confessed to killing Fredericks, whom he said he had engaged in anal sex with moments earlier.

During questioning by police, he related that April 15 he and Fredericks were drinking alcohol at a shop in Toroparu Backdam. When they left the shop, he was towing Fredericks back to his (Fredericks’) camp when he (Fredericks) asked him to have anal sex with him.

Police said the suspect said he agreed and when they were through an argument ensued during which he choked Fredericks whilst simultaneously covering his mouth and nose resulting in his death.

He then tied the deceased hands behind his back and took his body to a hole that an excavator had dug, and buried it.

The suspect took detectives back to the hole which he identified. The hole, which was filled with water, was drained and the naked body of the deceased man was found in a decomposing state with the hands bounded behind.
