Five arrested as CANU finds $20M in ganja

Five persons were taken into custody on Friday night by ranks of the Customs Anti Narcotic Unit (CANU) following the discovery of $20 million worth in marijuana.

CANU did not identify those who were arrested but said its officers conducted the operation at Lot 291 Broker Scheme, North East La Penitence, Georgetown.

Nine parcels of marijuana were found concealed in two blue barrels in an empty room.

The narcotics were transported to CANU Headquarters, where it tested positive for Cannabis. The parcels had a total weight of 66.8 kg, CANU said in a statement.
