Pedestrian struck by car, left for dead at Mon Repos

A 37-year-old pedestrian and construction worker who police identified as Lizardo Bastardo died Saturday night after being struck down by a car on the Better Hope Public Road, East Coast Demerara.

Police were only able to identify the car to be white since the driver sped off and left an injured Bastardo for dead.

The car was proceeding west while Bastardo attempted to cross the road from south to north when the driver collided with him; he was immediately rendered motionless in the northern driving lane of the road.

Exiobar Bastardo came to the accident scene and identified the body of the pedestrian to be that of his brother.

Police ranks also visited the accident scene where debris from a vehicle was seen scattered on the roadway. An ambulance was summoned the injured man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The body was then taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.

Police are in search of the driver and the vehicle.
