U-17 Girls lose 15-0 to Mexico in Concacaf Championship


The Guyana Under-17 Girls’ National Team has been booted from the 2022 Concacaf Women’s Under-17 Championship in the Dominican Republic, losing 15-0 to Mexico in the Round-of-16 on Saturday evening.

The Guyanese were down 2-0 five minutes into the contest and Mexico took advantage of the early breakthroughs to record an emphatic win.

Valerie Vargas, who opened the scoring in the second minute, added two more goals in the 49th and 54th minutes, while Layla Sirdah (27th, 33rd and 44th) and Tatiana Flores (47th, 56th and 60th) also recorded hat-tricks.

Michel Fong (5th), Jade Martinez (34th), Katherin Guijarro (59th), an own goal by Alyssa Blake (74th), Maribel Flores (82nd) and Deiry Ramirez (90th) accounted for the other goals for Mexico.
