An increase in the number of flights between Guyana and Houston, in the United States (US) is expected following the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The MoU was inked on Monday between the Government of Guyana and the Houston Airport System at the sidelines of the Offshore Technology Conference in Houston, Texas.
And according to a press release from the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) Corporation, the MoU has established a new mechanism through which Guyanese authorities and the Houston Airport System can strengthen collaboration and promote the expansion of the airport systems.
The release noted that both the Minister of Natural Resources Vickram Bharrat and the US Ambassador to Guyana Sarah-Ann Lynch, who are attending the conference, talked up the benefits of the MoU.
“Both expressed optimism that by working together, the airports will be better positioned to increase airlift between Guyana and Houston via the introduction of new airlines and increased frequencies from the existing carriers,” the release further noted.
The MoU was signed by the Chairman of the Airport Corporation, Sanjeev Datadin, who said that partnerships such as this will help sustain the aviation sector.
Meanwhile, the press release noted that the CJIA’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ramesh Ghir said that the partnership with the Houston Airport System presents an opportunity for Guyana to increase its connectivity with the rest of the world.
“(The Houston Airport System) is ranked as one of the largest airport systems in the world, which means that such allies in the aviation sector can further increase Guyana’s potential to promote and market itself as being among the top travel and investment destinations,” Ghir reportedly said.
