Female driver was drunk in Corentyne fatal accident – Police

The 35-year-old driver involved in the accident along the Nigg Public Road, Corentyne, Region Six on Friday which resulted in the death of Rajendra ‘Andy’ Khadaroo, was reportedly driving under the influence of alcohol.

The driver has been identified as Khamwattie Mangar Karpen. Police Headquarters reported that a breathalyser test found her alcohol level to be 94 and 98 micrograms.

Karpen is in custody assisting with the investigation. The accident occurred at about 05:00hrs according to the police.

According to the police report, Karpen was driving motorcar (HB 9598) east along the road while Khadaroo was reportedly speeding on motorcycle (CG 4684). It is alleged that while Karpen was trying to negotiate a turn, she ended up in the path of the motorcycle.

Police said Khadaroo was not wearing a safety helmet. As a result of the collision, he was flung off the motorcycle and landed on the front windscreen of the car, and then fell onto the road. He sustained injuries to his head and body.

He was picked up by public-spirited citizens and rushed to the Port Mourant Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police reported an autopsy performed later on Friday revealed that he died as a result of multiple injuries.

The News Room understands that Khadaroo was heading home from the mosque when the accident occurred.

He was also the co-owner of Sharon’s Halall Snackette located along the Albion Public Road.
