A 24-year-old man who reportedly beat his five-year-old son for consuming an entire portion of Chinese food was arrested and later released on bail but he will be prosecuted, according to the Guyana Police Force.
Police Headquarters, in a statement, noted that the matter was reported to the Amelia’s Ward Police Outpost in Linden, Region Ten on Tuesday.
“The victim was accompanied by a welfare officer who reported the matter and the assailant was arrested and placed in custody,” the police reported.
However, the father was subsequently released on station bail after it was reported that he was suffering from tuberculosis.
The young child was taken to the Linden Hospital Complex for medical attention. He is now in the protection of the welfare officer.
