Berbice painter drowns during family outing

A 21-year-old man drowned while on a family outing on Sunday at the Splashmins Creek Resort along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway.

The dead man has been identified as Dellon Jacobs, a painter of Lichfield, West Coast Berbice.

Regional Commander (ag) Keithon King told the News Room on Monday that the man reportedly ventured out into the deep end of the creek and moments later went under; the incident occurred at about 17:00hrs.

King said Jacobs could not swim.

Family members reportedly rushed to his assistance and retrieved Jacobs’ motionless body from the creek.

The young man then taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he was pronounced dead.

Investigations are ongoing.
