53 lbs ganja found in unoccupied Vigilance house

Police officers on Wednesday found 24 kilograms (53 pounds) of suspected cannabis in a flat concrete house located at Vigilance South, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

The officers visited the area based on information received, a release from Police Headquarters noted.

The officers proceeded to search the concrete building which was unoccupied at the time when they discovered five bulky transparent plastic bags containing suspected cannabis inside a barrel.

Ranks also found in a bedroom a suitcase containing 13 wrapped brown plastic bags with suspected cannabis and a bucket with 13 wrapped brown plastic bags, also suspected to be marijuana.

The police release noted that several government issued documents bearing the name of a male resident of Vigilance South were found.

The suspected narcotics were taken to the Cove and John Police Station.

Police, however, noted that no arrest has been made in relation to the discoveries yet.

Investigations are ongoing.
