A 20-year-old woman, who is currently awaiting sentencing for attempting to extort and frame her boyfriend for rape, was on Wednesday charged for escaping custody through a toilet at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Princess Williams of Providence, East Bank Demerara, appeared before City Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus and pleaded not guilty to the charge.
It is alleged that on May 7, 2022, while in custody at the East La Penitence Police Station complained of feeling unwell. A senior officer then ordered a police constable to take Williams to the Georgetown Public Hospital to seek medical attention.
After receiving medical attention, Williams asked to use the washroom. It is alleged that the woman escaped and was later found walking along Thomas and Lamaha Streets, with a cloth wrapped around her hands hiding the handcuff.
Williams, in her address to the Magistrate, claimed that she had marks of violence about her body due to her being chased and hit by a police officer.
However, when checked by a female officer no marks of violence were seen.
The Magistrate remanded Williams to prison until June 1, 2022.
Last Friday, Williams was remanded to prison by City Magistrate Rhondel Weever, after she was found guilty of a fraud matter.
The Magistrate ordered that a probation report be prepared for Williams and deferred sentencing until June 6, 2022.
Princess Williams made her first court appearance back in February 2021 for the offence which alleged that between January 4 – 7, 2021 in Georgetown with intent to extort $10 million from Kenrick Thomas, she threatened to accuse him of attempting to rape her.
Initially, she pleaded guilty to the charge, but later changed her plea to not guilty and was out on $100,000 bail pending her trial.
Reports indicate that the two were in a relationship for four months. It is alleged that after their relationship ended, Williams sent Thomas an audio message via social media and accused him of attempting to rape her.
She reportedly told him to pay her $10 million and if not, she will provide the police with the evidence. Thomas, however, made a report to the police instead and Williams was arrested.
