Paul Cheong, who served as Chairman of the Private Sector Commission (PSC) for the last year, was returned to the post when the body held its 30th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Thursday, at the Marriott Hotel, Georgetown.
As is customary, the business section of the AGM saw the council electing the Executive Members of the PSC who will serve for the period 2022-2023.
“The Commission is pleased to announce the re-election of Mr. Paul Cheong as Chairman, Mr. Ryan Alexander as Vice Chairman, re-election of Mr. Ramesh Dookhoo as Honorary Secretary, and re-election of Mr. Komal Singh as Treasurer,” a statement from the PSC noted.
Cheong is a business executive with over 40 years of experience and currently serves as the Chairman of several boards including the Guyana Oil Company (GuyOil), the National Industrial and Commercial Investment Limited (NICIL) and the Berbice Bridge Company Inc.
He also served as a member on the boards for the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo), Edward B. Beharry Company, Sterling Products, North American Fire and General Insurance (NIS), among others.
He has among his academic qualifications a Master in Business Management among other credentials.
In 2021, he was unanimously elected Chairman of the PSC where he served diligently for the last year.
“The Private Sector Commission expresses gratitude to its members for their participation in the process and looks forward to their continued support in the execution of the Commission’s mandate,” the statement added.
The PSC says it intends to continue being the leading advocate for the private sector on articulated and shared positions on national issues which will promote socio-economic growth and development through the creation of strategic partnerships with the Government and stakeholders.
