Demerara and Berbice recorded commanding victories on Friday when action commenced in the Guyana Cricket Board’s Female Inter-County T20 competition.
At the Albion Sports Complex, Demerara prevailed by 89 runs over the Select XI in the morning game, while Berbice trounced Essequibo by nine wickets in a low-scoring affair in the afternoon.

Demerara defeated the Select XI by 89 runs. Demerara 139-5 from 20 overs (Cherry Ann Fraser 46, Mandy Mangru 21, Latoya Smith 20, Extras 35; Niveena Ramnauth 2-24) vs Select XI 50 all out from 19.1 overs (Extras 20, Realeanna Grimmond 14; Latisha Jordan 4-7, Kaysia Shultz 3-11, Shemika Edwards 2-4)
Berbice defeated Essequibo by nine wickets. Essequibo 30 all out from 13.5 overs (Extras 21; Ashmini Munisar 2-1, Plaffiana Millington 2-4, Dian Prahalad 2-8) vs Berbice 32-1 from 4.3 overs (Shabika Gajnabi 14*, Analesia D’Aguiar 1-15)
The tournament will continue on Saturday (May 14) at the Everest ground with the Select XI against Essequibo from 09:00h, while Demerara will face Berbice from 13:30h.
Upon completion of this T20 tournament, the teams will clash in the 50-over segment after which a Guyana team will be selected to participate in the Regional Women’s tournament, slated to be played in Guyana in June.
