Update: Mason shot to abdomen dies at GPHC

Kevin Phillips, a 44-year-old mason of Melanie, East Coast Demerara, who was shot to his abdomen on Friday, has succumbed to his injuries.

Phillips died at about 06:50hrs on Saturday while in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Police Headquarters reported that he suffered a single gunshot wound to the right side abdomen.
Police had reported that the shooting incident occurred at about 22:20hrs at Bachelor’s Adventure, ECD.

Phillips had to undergo surgery at GPHC.

According to the police report, an eyewitness claimed that he was driving south on Bachelor’s Adventure Middle Road when he saw Phillips sitting on the western side of the road on a culvert.

“The eyewitness further stated he then saw the male suspect ran up to the victim and pointed what appeared to be a handgun, and he heard a single loud explosion, suspected to be a gunshot,” police said.

The suspect then fled the scene in a western direction.

Phillips was then rushed to GPHC by the eyewitness.
