Guyanese named Best Graduating student at Jacksonville University’s doctoral programme

Dr. Brian Sukhai, a vastly experienced Chartered Accountant, added another feather to his cap of academic accomplishments when he was recently named the Best Graduating Student at Jacksonville University’s Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) Class of 2022.

In February, he successfully defended his doctoral research and dissertation which examines the impact financial misconduct has on firm value, liquidity, and earnings management.

His work was selected for presentation this July at the Financial Management Association (FMA) European Conference in Lyon, France.

The conference brings together academics and practitioners with interests in financial decision-making. It provides a forum for presenting new research and discussing current issues in financial management and related topics.

“We are proud to call Dr. Sukhai an alumnus of the DBA programme at Jacksonville University.  During his time here as a student, he has proven himself to be hard-working and persistent, with the skills needed to lead the industry into the future.

“The acceptance of his dissertation work at an internationally known venue only substantiates what we know, that Dr. Sukhai has the potential to change business practices worldwide for the better,” were some profound words of Dr. Barbara Ritter, Dean, Davis College of Business.

Named an “America’s Best College” in the south for more than ten consecutive years by United States News & World Report, Jacksonville University is a premier private institution in Northeast Florida that was founded in 1934.

Speaking about his achievement, the former student of The Bishops’ High School and Queen’s College related, “By God’s grace, I am delighted to have completed a most rigorous DBA programme at Jacksonville University and the intention from my side now is to augment my contribution towards the development of my country, which is at a very exciting stage in its expansion trajectory.”

The husband and father of two, is currently the General Manager of Skeldon Energy Inc. and served previous roles at the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry, the Privatization Unit, Development Financing Limited South America, European Union Delegation to Guyana, and Power Producers and Distributors.

The 1996 Guyanese Scholar is the current Treasurer of the Guyana Cricket Board and an active member of the People’s Assembly of God Church in Industry.
