A boat accident in the Canje Creek (New Forest area) sometime around 10:30 hrs on Saturday resulted in one man missing and there are fears he may be dead.
Kevin France, 30, of Ulverston Village, Corentyne, Berbice was on the boat with four others, including a policeman, when it capsized in the Canje Creek, causing the men to fall overboard. While the four men made it to safety, France did not.
Reports suggest that the men boarded the14 ft boat with the name ‘Simplicity’ and were headed to Banib Canje Creek, East Canje Berbice to check on cattle belonging to an individual (name provided).
However, as they were making their way in the New Forest area, the waves caused by two other boats that were approximately 20-30 ft ahead of them, resulted in France’s boat to capsize.
Police from the Central Police Station were informed of the incident and a search was launched for France.
The four others who swam to shore are in police custody assisting with investigations.
