Man suffers fractured leg after refusing to buy alcohol for co-worker

A 30-year-old man of Pearl, East Bank Demerara suffered a fractured right leg after he reportedly refused to purchase alcohol for his coworker.

James Dos Santos, a supervisor at a logging company, is admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital, Police Headquarters reported.

The incident occurred at about 21:00hrs on Sunday at Kaburi Village, Essequibo River, Region Seven.

Police said Dos Santos and the suspect are both employed with the same company and on Sunday, Dos Santos was sleeping in the company’s truck when the suspect woke him up and asked him for money to buy alcohol.

Dos Santos reportedly refused to give him the money and the suspect then picked up an object and lashed his supervisor to his right leg, causing him to collapse to the ground.

Dos Santos then raised an alarm and he was assisted by residents of the area and taken to the Bartica Regional Hospital.

He was later transferred to GPHC.

Meanwhile, police are still hunting the suspect.
