Hadfield Street woman stabbed by ex-boyfriend
A 39-year-old woman is in a stable condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital after she was stabbed in the neck and abdomen by her 36-year-old boyfriend who is currently on the run.
Police Headquarters reported that the incident occurred at around 03:30hrs on Tuesday at the victim’s, Sharon Hoppie’s Hadfield Street, Lodge, Georgetown house.
The initial investigation revealed that the victim and the accused shared a relationship that ended about two months ago, but the suspect would visit from time to time. The victim has since started a new relationship.
According to the police report, at around 00:30hrs, the accused visited Hoppie’s house and met her new boyfriend; the boyfriend subsequently left after which Hoppie and the ex-boyfriend had an argument.
It is alleged that since it was past midnight, Hoppie allowed the accused to sleep at her home and she retired to bed at about 02:00hrs.
According to the police, at about 03:30 hrs, the accused went into Hoppie’s room, which was not locked, and stood over her with a knife in his right hand.
“She tried to fight the accused off and he dealt her a stab to her left-side neck and another to her right-side abdomen, after which he exited the house and fled the scene to an unknown location,” the police report noted.
Hoppie was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital by a neighbour. Police are still searching for the suspect.
