Berbice women got off a dominant start in the senior 50-over inter-county tournament after they hammered Essequibo by 481 runs at the National Stadium, Providence, on Wednesday.
Berbice racked up a mammoth 519-3 led by Katana Mentore with 159 (21x4s) from 129 balls, Shabika Gajnabi 129 (18x4s) from 91 balls, Shanetta Grimmond 101* (11 x4s) from 66 balls and Sherica Campbelle with a 30-ball 43* (5x4s).
Analeisa D’Aguiar took 2-114 from 9.4 overs as extra accounted for 86.
Essequibo in response was bowled for 38 from 17.3 overs as Gajnabi took 3-2 from three overs while Campbelle (2-9), Erva Giddings (2-15), Grimmond (1-1), and Ashmini Munisar (1-2) all got in the act of wickets.
Varuni Pitamber and Rhonda Jhones each got eight as no batter made into double figures.
The action continues Thursday at Providence with Demerara facing Select XI.
Guyana is preparing to host the Regional women’s tournament in early June.
