Kadeem Andrews, a 25-year-old security guard of Crane Housing Scheme, West Coast Demerara, was on Wednesday remanded to prison after being charged in connection with a shooting incident on May 15, 2022, at Eclipse Bar located at Leonora, West Coast Demerara.
Andrews appeared at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday and was charged with discharging a loaded firearm with intent before Magistrate Zamilla Ali-Seepaul.
He was not required to enter a plea and was remanded to prison until June 17, 2022.
Andrews was arrested on May 15 with a 9mm Taurus Pistol and nine matching rounds as police investigated him for the offence which was committed on Ricardo Poloram of De Willem, West Coast Demerara, who was injured on the left side of his neck.
Enquires disclosed that on May 15, Poloram was at the Eclipse Bar drinking with friends when he went outside to urinate.
While returning to the bar, he was confronted by the security guard and an argument ensued which resulted in an altercation.
At this point, police said, Andrews pulled out a handgun from a bag he was carrying and discharged a round in Poloram’s direction.
The victim was taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where he was seen by a doctor on duty, treated and sent away.
The area was checked for spent shells but none was found. Several CCTV cameras were seen attached to the said premises and are being reviewed by investigators.
