Boy, 5, critical after found with rope tied to neck

A five-year-old boy of Akawini, Pomeroon River, Region Two, is in a critical condition at the Intensive Care Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital after he was found hanging from a tree with a rope tied around his neck.

The child was discovered by his 25-year-old mother on Wednesday at around 11:00hrs.

Police Commander, Shiverpersaud Bacchus confirmed the incident to the News Room and said ranks are still on their way to the location to investigate.

The police were told that the mother and son were watching a movie on her phone between 09:30hts to 10:00hrs when she fell asleep.

The mother said she woke up at around 11:00hrs and checked for the child in the house but she didn’t find him.

She then went outside and made the discovery and immediately removed the rope. At that time, the child was not breathing and so she rushed him to the Charity Hospital, where he was admitted and later transferred to the Suddie Public Hospital.

He was then immediately rushed to GPHC and is currently in the ICU. Investigations are ongoing.
