A party of policemen on Wednesday arrested a 19-year-old girl for having in her possession 1.2 ounces of marijuana.
A statement from Police Headquarters revealed that the ranks conducted a search of incoming passengers from Parika, East Bank Essequibo to the Bartica stelling between 20:00hrs and 20:30hrs.
“During the police operation, a 19-year-old female of mixed race, who is a cook from New Amsterdam, Berbice was searched,” the police report noted.
During the search, the cops found a transparent plastic with a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.
The teenager was told of the offence committed, cautioned and arrested.
“She admitted, indicating that the cannabis is for her personal use. The cannabis was weighed in her presence and amounted to 36 grams. The teen is presently at the Bartica Police Station pending charge,” the police report concluded.
