Patrol ranks of Regional Division 4 ‘C’ came under fire in the wee hours of Thursday after they reportedly attempted to stop a car (PSS 7835) which was being driven in a dangerous manner with three men inside.

Police Headquarters reported that the incident occurred at about 01:22hrs within the vicinity of Industry, East Coast Demerara.

“The ranks were on mobile patrol duties in the vicinity of Sparendaam Public Road when they observed the Toyota Allion, motorcar PSS 7835, moving in a dangerous manner on the Plaisance Public Road, and then turned into Prince William Street,” Police said.

While in the vicinity of Crown Dam, Industry, the occupants of the car discharged two rounds in the direction of the ranks.

Police said the ranks returned fire after which the car stopped and the three men exited and escaped into nearby cane fields.

The vehicle was subsequently searched and multiple passport pictures along with a New Building Society bank book, several copies of Nigerian passports and a copy of a Guyanese female ID card were found.

The car, along with the documents, were lodged at the Sparendaam Police Station. Investigations are ongoing.
