Brazilian national robbed of $3,000; 15-Y-O suspect arrested

Twenty-eight-year-old Brazilian national, Francesco Alves De Arujo Junior, was robbed by four knife-wielding bandits on two motorcycles on Thursday of $3,000 local currency.

Police Headquarters in a statement said the incident occurred at about 19:40hrs within the vicinity of Roraima Inn on Eping Avenue, Bel Air Park, Georgetown.

One of the suspects was identified as a 15-year-old of South Sophia who was arrested later Thursday night after he and a 17-year-old reportedly shot at police patrol ranks with an air gun on Oronoque Street, Queenstown, Georgetown.

Police said this incident occurred at about 20:45hrs during which the ranks returned fire and reportedly shot the 17-year-old in right foot. The other two suspects managed to escape the police.

Meanwhile, Francesco who is a business administrator, arrived in Guyana on Tuesday and on Thursday, he was heading back to his hotel after purchasing food when he was confronted by the suspects.

The two pillion riders, one of whom was armed with a knife, dismounted the motorcycles, held Francesco at knifepoint, and relieved him of the cash.

Police said CCTV cameras of the incident were reviewed by investigators.

The 15-year-old suspect is in custody at the Alberttown Police Station and while making the robbery report, Francesco pointed him out to the police as one of the men who robbed him.

Investigations are ongoing.
