    As COVID-19 cases continue to rise, the Ministry of Health recorded the first COVID-19 death for the month of May.

    According to the ministry, a fully vaccinated 74-year-old man of Region Six (East Berbice – Corentyne), died on Wednesday, taking the death toll to, 1, 229.

    Meanwhile, 62 new COVID cases were recorded from a total of 915 tests, taking the overall number of confirmed cases since March 2020 to 64, 082.

    The new cases were recorded in the following regions; Region Two (five cases), Region Three (two cases), Region Four (45 cases), Region Five (one case), Region Six (seven cases) and Region Ten (two cases).

    There are two patients in the COVID Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 25 patients are in institutional isolation and 426 patients are in home isolation.

    To date, 62, 400 have recovered from the dreaded virus.
