Parfaite Harmonie family robbed, beaten, tied up by bandits

Police are investigating the armed robbery of a La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara family which occurred on Sunday at around 20:45hrs and was executed by bandits, all armed with guns.

A police report noted that 46-year-old Suresh Balram, 40-year-old Bibi Balram and two girls, ages 17 and 15, were in the lower flat of the house when the bandits pounced on them.

The men held them at gunpoint and Bibi was beaten in the face with a gun while Suresh was gun-butted to the head.

The bandits then ordered all four victims to lie face down on the ground and tied their hands behind their backs as they ransacked the house and grocery shop.

The bandits manage to cart off with a Samsung Galaxy A03 cellphone property of Suresh; an Apple iPhone 8 Plus cellphone; an eyeglass valued at $46,000; US$125; $5,000 in cash; a Samsung Galaxy A32; a quantity of Digicel $500 and $220 phone cards; GTT $500 and $200 phone cards; a quantity of gold jewellery valued $1.2 million; a Samsung A21 cellphone valued at $65,000 and $55,000 in cash.

The bandits escaped and the victims later managed to untie themselves. Investigations are ongoing.
