    A six-month-old baby from Region Six (East Berbice- Corentyne) is Guyana’s latest COVID-19 death, as reported by the Ministry of Health.

    The baby, a male, died on May 21. There have been a total of 1,232 COVID-19 deaths since March 2020.

    Additionally, the number of new COVID-19 infections continues to climb with 45 people infected over a 24-hour period. The new infections were recorded from 1,494 tests.

    The new cases were recorded from: Region Three (three cases), Region Four (23 cases), Region Five (three cases), Region Six (11 cases), Region Nine (one case) and Region 10 (four cases).

    The total number of infections recorded since March 2020 has increased to 64, 342.

    There are now four patients receiving critical care in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Additionally, 22 patients are in institutional isolation, four people are in institutional quarantine and 515 people are in home isolation.

    With 54 new recoveries, the total number of people who recovered after they were infected increased to 62,569.
