Two charged with murder of ex-convict

Two men appeared at the Springlands Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday jointly charged with the murder of 22-year-old Akash Pechia, who was found dead with chop wounds about his body in an empty lot at No.55 Village, Corentyne, Berbice about a week ago.
Derick Sugrim, 21, a labourer and Radesh Thaman called ‘Bangalee’, 20, also a labourer of No.55 Village, Corentyne, appeared before Magistrate Alex Moore; they were not required to plea to the charge and were remanded to prison until September 2, 2022.
Pechia’s body was discovered by residents on May 17 who then contacted the police. Investigators arrested the two men the following day based on information received and reports indicate that a third person is also implicated in the crime.
Pechia served time in prison for the offence of larceny and theft and was released three weeks prior to his death. He worked as a labourer in the village and neighbouring communities.
