The Guyana Fire Service has reported that the deadly blaze at 10 Field Barnwell, Mocha, East Bank Demerara (EBD), was electrical in nature.

The early Thursday morning blaze claimed the lives of eight-year-old Timothy Kippins, six-year-old Triston Kippins, and one-year-old Zhalia Flur, who were all trapped in the one-storey wooden building.

The deplorable state of the access road prevented firefighters from effectively responding to the blaze.

The children’s mother Tracy Flur, who is a security guard and was at work when the fire engulfed her house, told members of the media on Thursday that the fire may have been started by her abusive ex-boyfriend.

That ex-boyfriend had allegedly threatened to burn the house down and kill the woman.

A release from the Guyana Fire Service, however, stated that investigations revealed that the fire was electrical in nature.

The Fire Service has pleaded with citizens to take the necessary precautions to avoid fire emergencies.
