A 27-year-old resident of Guyhoc Park in Georgetown was nabbed with 386 grams (14 ounces) of marijuana at the 70 kilometre checkpoint in Region Seven (Cuyuni- Mazaruni) on Saturday.
Police Headquarters reported that a motor lorry driven by a 50-year-old man, with nine occupants, stopped at the checkpoint; they were all searched by police officers and nothing illegal was found.
When the vehicle was searched, a black parcel wrapped with a transparent plastic containing a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be narcotics was unearthed in the tray.
When the discovery was made, the 27-year-old passenger admitted ownership. As such, he was told of the offence committed, cautioned and arrested.
